T2COM Commander Visits Phoenix Battalion
During a recent visit to the Phoenix Recruiting Battalion, the Acting T2COM Commander, Lt. Gen. Edmond Brown, engaged with staff and local recruiting teams to highlight the battalion's operational successes across Arizona and northern New Mexico.
The visit underscored a critical shift in modern accessions — the integration of forward-thinking, digital strategies with traditional, grassroots recruiting efforts.
"The Phoenix Battalion is proving that when you combine centralized digital governance with decentralized, localized community engagement, you win the market," Brown noted while addressing the command team.
A focal point of the visit was the battalion's successful implementation of modern data capabilities, specifically the integration of the 420T (Data Operations) Warrant Officers. By moving away from legacy tracking and embracing modern analytics, the battalion has achieved a new level of operational agility.
"We're taking the data and helping commanders make data-driven decisions. We look at the data — prospecting, the number of appointments, conducts, and so forth — and use tools like Power BI, Power Query, and Python," said Talent Acquisition Warrant Officer Austin J. Dunn.
This tech-heavy approach provides command teams with early detection and warning capabilities in real-time. Commanders no longer have to guess at market trends; they have the formulas and live data presented clearly before them, driving sustained market share growth across the Southwest.
On the operations floor, Lt. Gen. Brown discussed ongoing Accession Enterprise modernization efforts, including the roll-out of the Army Accessions Information Environment (AIE) and the structural transition from the legacy 79R MOS to the new 42T Talent Acquisition Specialist.
The battalion’s Senior. Master Trainer, Master Sgt. David A. Jenkins who has converted to the 42T MOS, has experience with what the intent 42T is aimed at, having been an overseas recruiting guidance counselor. “Autonomous recruiting allows Recruiters to work independently of battalion and companies, and it actually works perfectly,” he said.
While data provides the roadmap, the actual mission is accomplished by the Non-Commissioned Officers on the ground. A central priority for any general officer’s visit was recognizing the hard work of the Soldiers driving the battalion's success.
The commander presented coins of excellence to three standout Recruiters for their superior performance and dedication to exceeding mission requirements:
- Sgt. 1st Class Ana M. Gallegos was recognized as the Phoenix Recruiting Battalion's top-volume Recruiter.
- Staff Sgt. Darrell A. Walton achieved outstanding success by securing a phenomenal five enlistments in the single month of July.
- Staff Sgt. Wayne M. Waldon was honored for his sustained superior performance and dedication to the overall recruiting mission.
Ultimately, as the Army navigates a rapidly evolving talent acquisition landscape, the Phoenix Recruiting Battalion is actively setting the standard for modern Army accessions. By fusing advanced data analytics with high-impact, grassroots community engagement, the battalion continues to dominate the Southwest recruiting market. Armed with real-time intelligence and anchored by the dedication of its top-performing Recruiters, the Phoenix Battalion remains uniquely positioned to build the force of the future, one connection at a time.
