Hull-Gallegos Ticket Keeps Choosin’ Texans Over New Mexicans

ALBUQUERQUE – The Republican candidates for governor and lieutenant governor of New Mexico have made it clear that they are prioritizing the concerns of Texans over those of hardworking New Mexico families, hoping to cozy up to Texas Governor Greg Abbott and import ultra-MAGA policies to our state.

With voting set to start in just a month and a half, Gregg Hull seems more interested in bringing Texas politics to New Mexico, making stops in Orla and Midland, rather than in courting voters here in New Mexico. 

Previously reported by NM Political Report, Hull stated that he is “fully committed” to working with Texas Governor Greg Abbott, bragging about having reached out to Abbott’s office, and unequivocally stating that he would help Texas take away access to reproductive healthcare in New Mexico.

And the cherry on top of the Texas Sundae: Hull’s running mate and Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, David Gallegos, has been a vocal supporter of NewMexit, a movement for energy-rich counties in southeastern New Mexico to secede and join Texas. He even sponsored a memorial in the New Mexico Senate to explore the feasibility of several counties joining Texas, which would devastate our state’s economy and schools and take the reproductive rights we protect in New Mexico away from the people of these counties.

“Gregg Hull and David Gallegos are obsessed with cuddling up to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and it’s embarrassing to all New Mexicans,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico spokeswoman Mila Myles. “Hull and Gallegos seem to care more about currying favor with extremist Texas Republicans and policing women’s bodies, instead of focusing on the issues directly affecting New Mexicans, like Trump’s healthcare cuts, over-the-top gas prices, and grocery prices that just won’t go down. Meanwhile, Deb Haaland and Democrats across New Mexico have put forth concrete plans to lower costs and remain laser-focused on listening to families in every corner of our state, working together to find solutions to our greatest challenges. The Republican ticket should take note.”
